Krav maga moves: Straight punch

One of the first moves you will learn in krav maga or self defense courses is the straight punch.  Straight punches are the same across many different martial arts forms.  Here is how to do a krav maga straight punch.

1. Begin in your basic krav maga stance.
2. Make sure your elbows are tight into your body.
3. Your hands should not be fists in a neutral position, but rather loose and curved defensively.
4. When you start the punch, your hand should form a fist, with your thumb curved over your fingers, such as if you were holding a coffee mug.
5. Push your arm straight forward, projecting force from your back leg.
6. Pull your arm back in quickly.

And that is the basic way to do a krav maga straight punch.  Practice doing straight punches with both hands and remember to use the force from your back leg to propel your punch.  The strength of the punch is not determined by your fist, but rather by how much force is going through your entire body from your legs, torso, and shoulders.
